Why are we making “Combover for Dinner”(COFD)

Hi everyone! My name is Dave Holbrook the Director of our little short and I want to thank you for checking out ComboverforDinner.com. If you have had a chance to look around the site, you can see we are already well into the production of the animated short “Combover for Dinner” -- and the only thing we need now is YOU!

We have put together this website in an effort to raise money to complete this wonderful little independent 3D animated short, with a goal of submitting the final film to the Academy of Motion Pictures at its completion. In return for your generous donation you will receive either and Assistant or Associate Producers credit on the final film.

We are looking to raise an additional $100k to cover the many costs of moving the short into full production. These expenses will include the paying of talented animators, modelers, and riggers; the creation of an original score by Mike Brassell (composer for Dream On Silly Dreamer); rendering and all the overhead costs that come with fulfilling the entry requirements for a short film in an upcoming Academy of Motion Pictures submission.

Just think about it -- if we could just get 100,000 people to donate $1 we would be all set to finish the project. All you would really be missing in your life is $1 -- and what’s that in the great scheme of things? All you’d have to do is get a medium nofat super moca-frappa-latta decaf coffee instead of a large just ONE time!

Many of you who will read this are already fans of animation or are currently working at a studio. Through the course of this project, I’m sure you will recognize friends that have generously, and at a severe pay cut I might add, loaned out their talents to make “Combover for Dinner” a reality. So please be generous in your support and help spread the word about this wonderful short to all your friends and contacts within our animation community.

The future of “Combover for Dinner” is now in your hands.

Thank You All

Who is making the short?

The crew is made up of current and former industry professionals from many different studios including Disney, Dreamworks and ILM. Since the crew is constantly changing as aspects of the production are completed and or started, a more complete list of the crew and their bios can be found on the front page of the site.

How far along are you?

That answer changes daily, over the past year we have raised about $30k for COFD allowing us to complete most of the pre-production and now its up to you and your generous donations to decide whether COFD gets produced in the next 8 months or 8 years. So keep checking back with us to see all the latest news and updates.

Why do you have to raise money for COFD?

The answer is simple; there is no money or real profit in making an animated short, so Angel investors and studio financing are out of the question, COFD is purely for entertainment purposes, so unless someone knows of a government program wanting to highlight the effects of embarrassing hair loss on relationships, grants are not available to us either and believe me we tried to find them.

Why should I give money?

The people who have donated do it because they love animation and want to help play a significant part in creating something really special. How often does the opportunity come around you can get a Producer’s credit on an award winning animated short, created by top industry talent for less than a minute of your time and for just a dollar?

How much can I give?

You can give as much or as little as you want. It would be preferred to give a minimum of $1, because the great people at Pay Pal take a percentage of every transaction and based upon the amount given you receive either an Assistant Producer or Associate Producer’s credit.

Where does the money go?

ALL donated moneys go to the production of COFD. Making a short of this quality, with the ultimate goal of submitting this to the Academy Awards for consideration, requires many expensive hoops to jump through. We are not a studio with deep pockets in fact we have no pockets to speak of, we are just a group of artists and storytellers that have come together for the sole purpose of breathing life into this wonderful story. There are many talented people that have given their time, talent and dedication to the completion of this short but alas they cannot work for free.

How can I become an Assistant Producer?

An Assistant producer is someone who enjoys animation and a great story and feels compelled to help out this project by donating up to $49. This in turn gets you many thanks from everyone working on COFD as well as your name in the final credits of the film.

How can I become an Associate Producer?

An Associate producer is someone who has generously given over $50 to the project. This celebrated donation will not only get you many props from the COFD crew and your name in the credits but also a snazzy COFD producers baseball cap to make all your Assistant producer friends jealous.

How can I become the Executive Producer?

So you want to be a big Hollywood producer do you? Well then - show us the money! When COFD is completely funded the person with the highest single donation to the film will get the credit title of Executive Producer. As Executive Producer you will be invited to attend all major festival showings as a representative of COFD and have equal share in any and all awards given to the film including the Academy Awards, which is the ultimate goal for this short.

How long will the COFD website be up?

The short answer is, as long as is takes to reach our fundraising goal and that is completely up to you.

Can I see COFD when it’s completed?

Yes and no. To be considered by the Academy, a short film may not be exhibited publicly anywhere in any non-theatrical form, including but not limited to broadcast and cable television, home video, and Internet transmission, until after its Los Angeles theatrical release.

That being said, there will be constant updates on the website of COFD’s progress including animation, just not edited in its final form. Once we have fulfilled all of the Academy’s requirements to the letter, I will upload the film in its entirety to the website. Everyone who generously helped produce the film via a donation will be sent a pass code through the email attached to their PayPal account to download the film for FREE.

Can someone option the rights to COFD?

Sure, if you are the generous benefactor type and you feel that you cannot go on knowing that someone else might produce this short, then by all means lets make a deal. All we ask is that if that scenario plays out that you are willing to either keep everyone’s producer credit or refund all the donation to this project and we’ll be good to go!
